Proverbs 22:6(GNB)
“Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their lives.”
Gen18:19(KJV)
“For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment”

Most times when we read Proverbs 22:6, we explain it in the context of our church doctrines and regulations or even morals. There is a difference between training a child in the way of the Lord and in the “church way” or “moral way” Morality will not help your children to pray, it won’t help them to study their Bibles neither will it help them understand the need for these or the reason they should be connected to God. The mistake most parents (especially those in church) make today is training their Children in the moral way. Morality is just the mental disposition or characteristic of behaving in a manner intended to produce morally good results. Godly training teaches self control, self sacrifice, obedience not just to the rules but to the word of God. Abraham, our case study in the second text, was spoken of by God himself as a person who would train his children not just to recognize right and wrong but to keep the way of the Lord.

In horticultural terms, to train means to encourage (a plant or branch) to grow in a particular direction or shape, usually by pruning and bending. There should be a definite direction you want your children to face; a definite path you want them to follow and it is up to you to encourage them to grow in that direction by removing their excesses (pruning) and help them fit into the purpose of God for their lives.

Make a commitment to raise a godly generation today.
Shalom.
